Chart Geek: Weeklist #10 Predictions

It's neck and neck for the top spot this week as Alessia Cara's "Here" is primed to overtake Elle King's "Ex's & Oh's." It will all depend on the UK charts. Last week, Alessia Cara is ahead of Elle King in the UK charts but the latter has experienced an unexpected surge in UK points recently so it is possible for their ranking to be reversed. At this point, it can be anyone's game and we'll just have to wait and see.

It's neck and neck between Cara and King for the top spot.

Adele's "Hello" is currently slotted for #3, up one position from last week. With the lack of strong competition, this song still has a chance of snatching the crown even though it is falling down the charts worldwide.

A few ranks below, Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself" may overtake Gwen Stefani's "Used To Love You" at #5. Bieber is currently gaining worldwide and is expected to reach the top 3 soon, while Stefani's song has surprisingly fallen off the US charts this week and hence gained no votes from there. It seems that Stefani's chances of rising higher in the charts came to an earlier end.

Taylor Swift's "Out of the Woods" is expected to reach #9 this week, up one position from last week. Although slowly gaining momentum in the US, the song is having a hard time reaching upper spots in the weeklist because the older songs are not falling fast enough due to their points being significantly higher than the newer songs. Perhaps in another couple of weeks, it might crack the top 5.

Bieber and Swift inch closer to the top.

The highest debut last week, "The Sound" by The 1975, is slotted for positions 12 or 13, up against Major Lazer's "Light It Up." Both of these songs are currently hot in the UK, and their performance in that chart will have a profound effect on their weeklist rankings. The 1975 reached a higher than expected #15 position in the UK charts last week and this propelled "The Sound" for its lofty debut.

Meanwhile, the anticipated highest debut this week, Rihanna's "Work" is currently slated for #16. It's still not clear if it can appear in the UK charts, having been released only very recently, but if it does it can easily overtake DNCE which is at #15 at the moment.

Another expected debut, Selena Gomez' "Hands To Myself" is hovering at the #17 position while her other song, "Same Old Love" is expected to fall to #18 this week. "Hands To Myself" is gaining a lot of support from the US charts, and this should help it rise higher in the coming weeks.

Rihanna and Selena Gomez expect big debuts this week.

Things are a lot less stable at the fringes of the weeklist since there are a lot of new songs wanting to gain entry but not enough old songs falling off the charts. Fall Out Boy's "Irresistible" is currently at #20 but similar to what happened last week, its competition, Coldplay's "Adventure of a Lifetime" will probably bump it out of the weeklist since Coldplay's song is still quite big in the UK.

Other hopefuls just outside the Top 20 include One Direction's latest single, "History," which just got a video and Little Mix's third single off Get Weird, "Secret Love Song." Both acts are big in the UK and it will be interesting to see whether they could compete with the other US-based acts in the weeklist.

Chart Geek: Weeklist #9 Predictions

As reported last Saturday, Elle King has successfully dethroned Ellie Goulding's 6-week reign at the top of the charts. What does this week have in store for us? Let us sort through the facts and the figures to find out.

Note: The Electrique Music Weeklist compiles points from personal votes, the US Billboard Hot 100, the UK Official Charts Company, as well as some randomly generated votes.

***

Elle King's throne is threatened by Adele and Alessia Cara.

Elle King seems to be well-entrenched to have her second week at the top as "Ex's & Oh's" points appear to be secure despite the lack of strong support from the UK. Currently, the song is at the lower half of the UK charts (it debuted the week before last) and is unlikely to gain more votes any time soon.

Ranks 2, 3, and 4 are much less stable since Alessia Cara's "Here," Adele's "Hello," and Ellie Goulding's "On My Mind," are still viable contenders. At the moment, "Here" is on the lead but Adele will most likely overcome the other two songs since "Hello," despite being on the decline,  is still gaining formidable points from both the US and the UK charts. "Here" has recently appeared on the UK charts and is on its way up so we're expecting the UK points to give it longevity on the upper reaches of the weeklist, Plus, "Here" has also just reached its highest peak in the US. Like Adele's song, Alessia still has a shot of recapturing that #1 slot, given its unexpected resurgence in the US charts. Meanwhile, "On My Mind" is falling everywhere and is sure to be on its way down.

Gwen Stefani's "Used To Love You," is now finally estimated to have reached #5 after being stuck at #6 for 4 weeks. Despite being a personal favorite and Gwen's relentless promotion of the song, it has been receiving stale support from the US and as a result, has had trouble getting any higher in the weeklist. Its fate in the weeklist is uncertain and will be influenced by how fast the other songs on top of it are falling, and how fast the songs below it are gaining.

Gwen Stefani's "Used To Love You" finally breaks into the Top 5,
but its future is uncertain.

One Direction's "Perfect" has finally fallen out of the Top 5 and it could have easily fallen further to #6 since Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself" is breathing down its neck. "Love Yourself" was #1 in the UK last week and is expected to still be there or at #2 in their charts. Bieber also seems set to rule the US charts soon so it will most likely rise in the coming weeks and may even reach the top spot by February.

Jess Glynne is expected to hold steady at #8, and Twenty One Pilots "Stressed Out" is stuck at #9. The latter song is gaining popularity in the US so it will most likely break into the Top 5 in a few weeks. Next, we have Taylor Swift's "Out of the Woods" finally making a crack into the Top 10. The song surprisingly fell in the US charts and is not gaining as much support as her previous single "Wildest Dreams" had so we'll have to wait and see how high it can achieve based on personal votes alone.

Below the Top 10, Daya is secure at #11 with "Hide Away." Major Lazer's "Light It Up" is currently locked at #12 but this could easily be toppled by this week's highest new entry, "The Sound" by The 1975. Tori Kelly's "Hollow" will either end up at #12 or #13, depending on how successful "The Sound" is in the UK charts.

Positions 15 to 18 are a toss-up between Selena Gomez' "Same Old Love," Demi Lovato's "Confident," and new entries by Ellie Goulding ("Something In The Way You Move"), and DNCE ("Cake By The Ocean".) Demi is definitely on her way out of the charts, while Selena will probably have a longer staying power due to her song's success in the US.

The 1975 and DNCE are expected to debut this week.

The last two spots in the Weeklist are going to be fought for by five acts: Carly Rae Jepsen, Tame Impala, Fall Out Boy, Kelly Clarkson, and Coldplay. Of these acts, only Coldplay is in the UK charts and is still doing well, so it will most likely snag a spot. Carly, Tame Impala, and Kelly are getting no support at all from the US and the UK so their shelf lives are probably at their ends. Fall Out Boy's "Irresistible" had been hanging around beyond the top 20 for a couple of weeks now and whether it enters the chart or not will depend on its US votes, which are neither steady nor stellar at the moment.
